Mathematics is often considered a difficult and boring subject by many students. Therefore, to change this view and bring a bit of fun into the lesson, I introduced a game tournament as a refreshing new teaching method for one of the topics I teach. This method combines elements of games and competition to enhance students' motivation and understanding of maths.
In this game tournament, I divide students into several groups, then explain the game rules, the topic that will be used, and the scoring system. After being given sufficient time to understand and digest the material, each group member takes turns answering the questions. The group that answers quickest and with the correct answers, earns the highest score and wins the tournament!
From the scoring process and game results, I observed a high level of enthusiasm among the students. This game proves that engaging challenges and a fun learning environment can boost their motivation. Moreover, this type of game tournament sharpens quick thinking skills, builds confidence, and strengthens teamwork in the classroom.
And, it was refreshing and rewarding to see my students actually enjoying learning maths!
