On 23 July 2024, EBPP health team, in collaboration with YPK Bali’s Bali Rungu team, conducted our annual ENT (ear, nose & throat) examination for elementary students at SD N 2 Ban school. Our ENT specialist, Dr. Janris Sitompul, examined 122 students from grades 1 to 3. For most first graders, this was their first-ever ENT check-up, as there is no ENT specialists at the nearest community health centere (Puskesmas).
This year, 44 students required earwax removal, a significant decrease from last year's 79 cases. Other than earwax, some students had foreign object inside their ear and/or nose, such as bugs and seeds. When Dr. Janris asked if they felt any discomfort due to something in their ears or noses, the students were unaware of any issues.
This underscores the importance of regular ENT examinations, without which, many students would remain unaware of potentially harmful objects or conditions. Therefore, we are committed to continue regular ENT examinations for the children in Ban Village to ensure they maintain healthy ears, noses, and throats.
