The realistic mathematical approach that we apply in the learning process in EBPP Schools provides practical opportunities for the students to construct mathematical concepts so that they have a strong understanding.

We recently made a simple clinometer (an instrument for measuring angles of elevation or inclination/slope) to apply this realistic mathematics approach to our real life. We use the clinometer to determine the distance between two points and the height of trees. The students found this tool very useful.

I hope this experience will not only strengthen the students’ competency in mathematics but also improve their critical thinking skills. •
