Weda, a previously malnourished boy from Tongtongan Hamlet, has finally overcome malnutrition. At 12 months old, Weda was moderately underweight at 7.8 kg. Three months after our first intervention, he weighed 9.6 kg at 16 months, within the normal range for his age.
Thanks to his mother, Weda’s health transformation is remarkable. Initially, his diet consisted mainly of instant baby porridge and milk due to his mother’s lack of knowledge about balanced nutrition. With our guidance, she gradually introduced real foods into Weda’s diet. Her cooperative spirit and commitment were key to Weda’s improvement. As she began incorporating real foods and preparing nutritious snacks, his weight increased steadily.
Weda’s father also played a significant role in this success. Initially against giving eggs to Weda due to local beliefs, he eventually embraced their importance for his son’s growth after we explained their nutritional benefits.
Today, we are confident that Weda’s family can maintain healthy eating habits and continue supporting his growth. With the knowledge and skills they have gained about balanced nutrition, we hope they will keep implementing these practices to ensure Weda grows up healthy and strong.
