Saraswati Day: Celebrating Bali's Culture and the Value of Knowledge at EBPP

Saraswati Day (Hari Raya Saraswati) is one of Hindu Bali’s most important holy days, celebrated to honour the arrival of knowledge and learning. This celebration takes place every six months according to the Balinese calendar. For the Balinese community, especially students, it is an important occasion to show respect for knowledge while preserving cultural traditions.
At EBPP schools, Saraswati is a special occasion that brings students and teachers together in preparation for the celebration. A day before the ceremony, students work together to prepare the necessary offerings, decorate the school area, and clean the surroundings of the prayer area. These activities are not only part of the traditional preparations but also reflect the spirit of togetherness and respect for spiritual values.
On the day of the celebration, the school atmosphere becomes different from an ordinary school day. Students and teachers wear traditional Balinese clothing and gather to participate in the prayer ceremony together.
Through the celebration of Saraswati Day, EBPP is not only a place where students gain an education but also a space where they can learn about, experience, and preserve Bali's cultural heritage. This occasion reminds us that education does not only take place inside the classroom, but also through shared experiences, togetherness, and appreciation of their local culture.
Swipe to see how our students preserve their traditions beyond the classroom!
