Turning Natural Materials into Creative Art

As part of the students’ creative projects, Grade 1 and Grade 3 students took part in an engaging art activity using simple and easily available materials, including recycled paper and dried leaves. The project encouraged students to learn through hands-on activities while developing their creativity and fine motor skills.

For Grade 1 students, the project focused on learning how to use scissors safely and correctly. Students practiced cutting paper and dry leaves into simple shapes. This activity helped strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers, improve hand-eye coordination, and develop better control of their fingers. These skills are important as preparation for writing more confidently and smoothly.

For Grade 3 students, the project was to develop a leaf collage. Students collected dry leaves and transformed them into creative pictures by arranging, cutting, and gluing the leaves onto thin cardboard. I encouraged them to use their imagination and create their own designs using the natural materials around them.

Through this project, students learned that materials that are often seen as waste can be reused to create something meaningful and beautiful. This activity also encouraged these young students to appreciate nature, reduce and recycle waste, while exploring their creativity.

Most importantly, the project provided a fun learning experience where students could learn by doing, create with their hands, and turn simple materials into something of beauty that they could be proud of.
