Last week, EBPP collaborated with SeaBank and PerfectFit for a two-day women’s empowerment lesson at Darmaji School, which focused on financial literacy and healthy menstruation for 49 Darmaji School female students and women from the surrounding community.
On the first day, Ibu Linda, Finance Director of SeaBank, introduced participants to simple but important financial habits: knowing the difference between needs and wants, appreciating what we already have, and learning to manage spending by controlling unnecessary desires.
Divided into small groups, participants worked together to create a monthly household budget. For many women, it was their first time putting their household expenses on paper.
For our students however, financial literacy has already been introduced in EBPP’s Youth Empowerment Programme and integrated into their school curriculum. This session gave them an opportunity to put what they have learned in the classroom into practice, while introducing the same skills to their mothers and other community members.
By the end of the session, participants had a clearer understanding of which expenses could be reduced and how better financial planning can help families set aside money for savings and emergency needs.
It was a meaningful first step towards building stronger financial confidence and resilience in Darmaji.
